Rekha's colour palettes are shaped by her mother’s sari collection, the silhouettes are influenced by contemporary culture, and the embroidery is inspired by British and Indian flowers. The collection is finished with expertly crafted design details that infuse her clothes with luxury.
Rekha’s vision embodies her story
Rekha Mistry has been Rekha’s passion for the last six years and she’s thrilled to see it come to life. She says, “I just knew I had to pursue my own passion and launch my own Indian-inspired modern luxury fashion label. It's infused with the rich heritage of my family’s Indian traditions that are so precious to me. My versatile separates in sleek, contemporary silhouettes are made for expressing your own style.”
Rekha Mistry clothes embrace the heritage, artistry and quality of Indian occasion wear, reinventing it for the modern British Indian woman. Her inspiration came from needing beautiful outfits that seamlessly blend the sumptuous detail and luxury feel of Indian occasion wear with a more modern, British aesthetic. They simply did not exist.
"I was born and brought up in the UK, and for people like me, who are British Indian, the outfits we’re surrounded with at all our special occasions linger in our memory. When I searched for modern Indian clothes but couldn’t find what I envisioned. I knew I wasn’t the only one struggling to express my Indian heritage, whilst looking sophisticated and modern, and feeling confident and comfortable. So I designed them myself. "
For Rekha, it wasn’t enough to just look incredible. Her clothes have to feel comfortable and effortless to wear too. Rekha has designed her first collection with effortless wear in mind. “Personally, although I love saris, I do find them difficult to wear – they’re so complicated to put on. They look great, and if you know how to wear them and walk in them, that’s wonderful. But if you don’t, there's a real danger of the whole outfit literally unravelling in the middle of an event. It’s happened to me and it’s so stressful finding an Aunty to help put your outfit back together again. So I’ve designed my clothes to be effortless: just put them on and you're good to go.”
Rekha’s grandparents on both sides were born in Rajasthan, and Rekha’s parents have kept their family links strong, with regular trips to India. Feeling rooted to her Indian culture is a way for Rekha to feel a close connection to her heritage. She says her appreciation of saris came from her grandmother and mother: “Seeing how elegant they looked in them. Seeing them choosing saris for special occasions – I have so many cherished memories of sharing these moments. The time I've spent pouring over saris with my mum and grandmother is precious to me and I’m continuing that authenticity with my label.”
Each garment is intertwined with layers of meaning. The clothes are inspired by her mother and grandmother’s exquisite saris and the saturated shades of Indian weddings. They're influenced by the flowers of both Britain and India, and the contemporary silhouettes of today’s fashion. Every stitch, every sequin and every sari-inspired fold tells the story of being a modern British Indian woman.
A contemporary way for British Indians to honour their heritage
For Rekha, giving other British Indians like her a new way to connect with their roots is vital. She says, “My clothes are a respectful reinterpretation of heritage Indian clothes. When your mother sees you wearing them, she’ll be overcome by how beautiful you look. She'll appreciate the elements of a sari, and nods to her heritage. She sees her daughter look Indian but also effortlessly modern, and uniquely herself.”
Each Rekha Mistry piece is designed by Rekha in England, made in India, and hand beaded and hand embroidered by artisans in Kolkata. This hand-finished attention to detail infuses each garment with another layer of authenticity: the hand of the maker. And it supports local communities to keep their precious traditional skills alive.
Rekha’s mission is to create a joyous experience. “My concept is to create something versatile that works with your life and is a pleasure to wear. It's so much more than a capsule wardrobe: they're timeless pieces you’ll cherish for years. But they’re so comfortable you won’t feel you have to save them for the very best occasions.”

And of course, there are beautifully elegant gowns for your weddings, festivals and other more formal events. Now you can dial the glamour and formality up or down as you wish.”
